Delineate / Design / Permit / Build
AECI had been involved in all phases of wetland permitting and construction since it’s inception. From the initial site evaluation through construction and monitoring, AECI uses both established and innovative methods to meet the client’s particular situations.

The Ponds at Riverside

AECI was brought in to find a solution to these problems at a residential subdivision with construction underway:

  1. Hydric soils from wetlands to be impacted were not conserved.
  2. Wetland construction was not factored into the site development sequence.
  3. Elevated streets on retaining walls were already in place.

AECI brought in a "tag team" of conventional and long-reach hydraulic excavators to effect the solution. In order to assure a reasonable interval for monitoring prior to final paving, the created wetlands were built in January. Therefore, our mitigation efforts were somewhat unique:

  1. To alleviate concerns over disturbing retaining walls and their geo-grids, the long reach excavator was placed beyond the geo-grid. This machine placement took away the operators line of sight; excavation, hydric soil placement and the planting were carried out by hand signals and radio.
  2. Hydric soils for the mitigation efforts were manufactured using a mixture of topsoil, clay, composted manure and select rootstocks.

Plattrock Subdivision

AECI was in the process of obtaining a Nationwide Permit 39 from the Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) when a site contactor filled wetlands in order to gain site access. AECI managed the ACOE enforcement action and re-drew the plans to indicate
restoration and additional mitigation, offsetting the violation. ACOE and NYSDEC permits were obtained before local approvals and the project was not delayed.
